Electrician Sees Home Falling Apart When He Goes To Fix 72-Year-Old Woman'S Lights

Here’s something that every homeowner can relate to: Something in your home breaking stinks. It’s not a fun time. No one likes it but unfortunately, it happens. Luckily, there are professionals we can call when this does inevitably happen, and they can help us out.

An older woman, 72-year-old Gloria Scott recently called Massachusetts handyman and electrician John Kinney when she needed something in her home to be fixed.

Apparently, Gloria called in John for what seemed to be an electrical problem — a light fixture went out in her Woburn home — but when he got there, he soon realized that there was so much more that needed to be fixed.

When he came down for the inspection, he noticed several other things needed to be repaired. Most of the wiring was shot, half the lights were out, the outside area was essentially an unkempt jungle, many plumbing issues, and even the ceiling was beginning to fall apart.

Honestly, that was just the beginning of all the issues he discovered.

John, being the good man that he is, could not simply fix the one lighting fixture and then be on his way, without doing anything about the rest of the mess. He knew he could not leave the elderly woman to continue living in that house of broken chaos.

He knew something needed to be done, so he decided to round up some enthusiastic volunteers to help him with the repairs and overall cleaning up of the house.

It’s not that Gloria was necessarily neglecting her home issues, but she is an older woman with not a whole lot of money. She’s living the best that she can. In addition to that, she doesn’t have any nearby family to keep an eye on her or help her out.

Gloria’s living situation had simply been out of her hands. Money was tight and she was trying her best all on her own.

John decided that his work simply was not going to be enough to get Gloria’s home back on track.

After John and his trusty volunteers did their best work, he decided it still wasn’t enough, so he started a fundraiser (which you can check out here . It has since ended). The fundraiser was meant to raise money to purchase the materials needed to fix the house.

Additionally, he rounded up a team of professionals as well as less-experienced volunteers to help clean up the home. You know, get it to the point where living in it wasn’t a complete hazard.

“She has some serious plumbing issues that need to be corrected. There is extensive drywall repair to be done. A massive amount of painting. Her front porch brick steps are an accident waiting to happen. I have a network of skilled professionals that will donate their time to this cause. I’m looking to raise money for materials,” John explained on the fundraiser page.

Thankfully, the money they needed was raised and they began all of the repairs necessary to make the house a home worth living in.

They raised a whopping $110k, so they re-did the ceilings and walls, painted the house, renovated the porch stairs and even re-did the yard, among several other things.

Obviously, Gloria was taken by surprise and so grateful for all of the immensely hard work the boys put into her home. She didn’t have to spend a single cent, and she knew how lucky she was for that.

“Look at these people… [You] can’t even comprehend the gratitude that I have,” Gloria said.
