Mom Divides Hair Into 3 Sections For Gorgeous New Hairstyle

Anyone with long hair has undoubtedly tried to find some new and creative ways of styling it, whether it’s simply to keep their hair out of their face for practical reasons or to add a little flair to their day.

We’re really loving this “triple flip” braid highlighted on the YouTube channel “Cute Girl Hairstyles” in 2016 (of course, that doesn’t mean it’s limited to girls!). Since it’s been viewed over 2.6 million times since then, we’re guessing some others have enjoyed the tutorial as well.

Mindy and Kamri are the stars of this clip and they’re going to show us how to do it.

Of course, the minute Kamri (who, by the way, has her own YouTube channel ) turned around and we saw she was a young teen who would be her model to demonstrate the beautiful hair style.

However, if you can make this happen, it’s a style that looks great from both the front and back!

Ok, let’s get to it.

Mindy has parted Kamri’s hair just a bit off-center where it tends to fall naturally. That means she’ll be able to throw it over her shoulder on that side and get some volume where’s used to seeing it at the crown of her head. (But don’t worry, you can part down the very center if that’s what you want!)

Next, Mindy runs her fingers down Kamri’s perfect hair to divide it into three sections.

Her fingers go behind Kamri’s ears and the center section will be the widest.

Now, she smooths the middle section of the hair with a comb before putting it in a loose, low ponytail.

And here’s the part that looks more complicated than it is. First, she makes a hole above the hair elastic she just put in.

Then, she takes the rest of the ponytail and flips it though that hole.

Now for the sides.

Mindy takes the left side piece of hair, puts the elastic a little bit lower, and does another flip through the little pocket she creates with her fingers.

Once the right side is done, Kamri already has three flips in her hair with almost no effort at all!

But we’re still a long way from that full braid!

The next step is to take each side ponytail and flip the whole thing through the center one from outside to inside.

Now we have one big piece of hair to work with instead of three.

It may not look perfect at first, but don’t worry. You can move pieces around until they look like you want them to – even Mindy has to do some adjusting!

If you’ve ever braided fine hair before, you know the outcome can look a little wimpy unless you tug out some strands to puff it up a bit. That’s precisely what Mindy does next (though this step is purely optional).

However, if you’re good at it, you can add some volume at the crown of the head by tugging those pieces as well (unless you’re like us and one wrong tug ruins the whole look).

At this point, we’re left with two ponytails – the original middle pony and the combination of both sides (that now count as one).

You may have to watch the video to master this part, but once you see it in action, it’s easy. You’re just going to take the larger ponytail, divide it in two, and wrap each around the outside of the thin ponytail.

Then, you’ll secure those two sides with an elastic.

Now, you’ll do the same thing again with the ponytail hanging in back – divide, wrap-around, and secure.

This will go on until you reach the bottom of your hair.

Now, it’s time to tug again (can you tell it’s our least favorite part?).

The bonus here is that not only does the tugging add volume, but it hides some of those elastic bands.

Frankly, we’d probably leave it as is if we managed to get that far, but let your confidence and sense of adventure guide you!

The result is so pretty!
