Mother-Daughter Duo Melts Hearts Singing 'Grandpa' By The Judds To Bedridden Grandfather

Death can be a very scary topic. Most of us don’t want to be faced with our own mortality, but it’s no use running from it. You know what they say, only two things in life are certain: death and taxes.

The best we can hope for is to live long, healthy, full lives in the time that we have here on this beautiful place we call earth.

For those of us lucky enough, we leave this world peacefully and surrounded by the people we love. And that was the case for Kayla Collins’ grandfather in Florida.

He was bedridden and ailing when his family gathered around to sing a very fitting song – Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days , by The Judds.

He loves that song, and his face absolutely lights up as soon as he hears it.

Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days Sometimes it feels like this world’s gone crazy And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday When the line between right and wrong Didn’t seem so hazy

Hospitals are not considered the most comfortable or relaxing places at the best of times.

But studies have shown that even in those less-than-relaxing conditions, music can bring stress levels of patients down significantly.

Some medical centres in the United States have started including it as part of their patient’s treatment in order to help them feel calm and at peace.

Judith Kate Friedman has seen it first hand. She is a professional songwriter who works specifically with seniors.

“One of the hottest topics is music and the brain. Music lights up the brain more than almost any other human activity.”

This man was lucky. Not only did he not have to stay at the hospital, but he got an even more special and meaningful musical “treatment”. His granddaughter, Kayla Collins shared the personal video on her Facebook page and it was shared more than 40k times.

You can see her grandfather clapping along, smiling, and feeling the love.

Meanwhile, his daughter and grand-daughter used their beautiful voices to sing to him. And tried to hold back tears, but they find it hard to keep it together. Kayla (understandably) breaks down a little bit before continuing on.

Another family member, either his son or maybe his grandson, comes over to softly stroke his head while the women in the room sang.

The moment is simply beautiful. I can’t think of a better way to go.

Viewers were so moved by the moment and gave their condolences. Some even shared stories of their own.

“I lost my grandpa almost a year ago and seeing this made me wish I could go back and sing this song to my grandpa. This was so beautiful. Made my heart so happy and full of love seeing how happy his face was when they were singing to him. Moments like these you won’t ever forget.” – Ashley Faria

“Love this we sang this to our grandpa as well. Miss him so.” – Evelyn Andreoli

What a beautiful way to help your loved one pass on, and to remember such a significant moment in your own life as well.

Kayla was clearly very close with her grandfather, and continues to live on with him close to her heart.
